Method
What is counted
Every legal unit in CVR with staff in the month, and the FTE (årsværk) its employer reports through eIndkomst. No status filter: a company counts in each month it has staff. Public authorities are units with a public legal form; every other employer is private.
Cells and rules
One DB25 industry per unit for the whole series. Sections and detail groups are Statistics Denmark's 20 and 36 groupings; region is the registered address. A cell is suppressed in a month with fewer than 10 employers, fewer than 10 in 2021, or when its two largest units hold more than 90% of its FTE; its units stay in the totals. So that no total less the other cells gives a suppressed one back, the smallest other cell of its family is suppressed with it. Under 30 employers a cell is marked low reliability.
Adjusted line
FTE divided by the month's working-day effect (one national coefficient, -0.2) and a fixed seasonal factor per cell and calendar month, then averaged over 3 months. The factors were estimated through January 2026 and are re-estimated once a year, with the January data, so a published value moves in between only when CVR revises the raw data.
Why the change uses the adjusted line
FTE dips about 9% every July. Over the last 6 months all employers show -3.8% as registered and -0.2% adjusted: the difference is the summer holiday, not lost jobs. Not Adjusted shows FTE as registered.
Preliminary months and revisions
CVR loads each month around the 20th of the second month after it, and rewrites recent months at each load. The latest 3 months are dashed and marked p. Each release lists what moved since the edition before.
The October 2019 break
Before October 2019 CVR used another method, about 5% apart in headcount, so Max starts in the current series and earlier months are not joined. FTE as registered starts in October 2019 and the adjusted line in December 2019, its first 3-month average.
Known artefacts
Finance and insurance lost two merged banks, about 2,080 FTE, from its rows from January 2026, and has a one-month spike in July 2024. In August 2020 medicinal manufacturing (C21) and energy supply (D) lose most of their FTE for one month, a gap in the registry. A merger across cells shows as a step in both. One firm dominates medicinal manufacturing. These are annotated under the chart of each cell they touch, not corrected.
Editions and reports
An edition is named by its latest data month and published about 2.5 months after it. Dated files never change; a correction gets a new file name. The same figures are in the Dandex MCP server as the labor-index tool. These are statistics computed by Dandex, not official statistics from Statistics Denmark. Terms: glossary.
